Eight years ago, a storm brought down a cherry tree at Bartram’s Garden – the oldest surviving botanical garden in North America — and they invited us to mill it down and give it a new life! As the wood air-dried and transformed from tree to lumber, we, too, changed. Once ready, we set to work making this collection of truly one of a kind pieces, and they are eager to be set free, to transform your space and your work. A storm felled it. Time dried it. We shaped it. Now it's yours to make something with. Learn More

Description

Turned from a fallen cherry tree in the woods of historic Bartram's Garden this bowl is steeped with history, craftsmanship and care and is ready for you to add your layer to its rich story. The garden, a historic staple of Philadelphia, was the homestead of John Bartram who traveled up and down the American Colonies in the 18th century, gathering botanical specimens and seeds for his own garden and the King of England. When the folks at Bartram's reached out saying they had a tree that fell in a storm, we jumped on the offer to come out with our Alaskan Saw Mill and spent the afternoon cutting the cherry tree into lumber. Eight years later the wood was air dried and more than ready to be transformed and shaped into Peg and Awl treasures! Silas, who was a youngster on milling day, worked this summer at the lathe, turning stacks of bowls and finished with these one of a kind treasures! Each one is etched with its unique number.
